Length is the upgrade
A 20-yard roll-off measures 22' L × 7.5' W × 4.5' H. Against the 15-yard box, nothing changes but the floor: six more feet of length, which is where bulky items go. Disassembled deck boards, cabinet runs, couches, and door slabs load flat instead of stacking into a wall. The height stays at 4.5 feet, so you can still swing material over the side rather than carrying everything through the rear door.
The tradeoff is parking. A 22-foot container plus the truck’s straight approach asks more of a driveway than the 15 does. Measure the usable run before you call, and name anything overhead — wires, limbs, gutters on a tight lot.
The projects that fill it
Kitchen tear-outs are the classic 20-yard load: cabinets, counters, flooring, and the drywall behind them. Half of Ohio’s housing units were built before 1965, and kitchens of that age rarely come out clean — expect plaster behind the tile and two or three floor layers under the vinyl. Garage and basement clearings, carpet across a whole floor, fence tear-outs, and dismantled decking all land in the same range. If the pile is one room, drop to the 15. Shingles: size for weight, not volume
A 20 takes roof tear-off debris, but shingles are dense, so the working limit is weight. Expect a fill line below the rail and a firm weight allowance in the quote. Both regional disposal points take the material — Bavarian Waste in Walton, Kentucky lists shingles on its published accepted list, and Rumpke’s Colerain Township landfill accepts construction debris. Bring the square count and the number of layers to the call.
Storm cleanup runs through this box
Greater Cincinnati sits in a real severe-weather corridor. The National Weather Service office covering the area confirmed seven tornadoes in the March 30–31, 2025 outbreak, including a touchdown in West Chester — one of our listed coverage towns. Two states, one box, different gates
Where the load lands depends on the address. Ohio-side loads run to facilities like Rumpke’s Struble Road landfill. Northern Kentucky loads can run to Bavarian Waste, the lone landfill in Boone County, which receives waste from Boone, Kenton, and Campbell counties. The accepted lists differ at the margins — tires are the clearest example — so name anything unusual in the load before delivery.

How much space does a 20-yard dumpster need?
The box itself is 22 feet long and 7.5 feet wide, and the truck needs a straight approach on top of that. Measure the usable driveway run — gate to garage — and flag overhead wires, tree limbs, and slope when you call. The surface has to be firm and level.
Is a 20-yard dumpster big enough for a kitchen remodel?
A full kitchen tear-out — cabinets, counters, flooring, and the drywall that comes with them — is the classic 20-yard load. Older Cincinnati houses add plaster and layered floors, which push weight up. Describe the rooms and the finishes so the quote carries the right allowance.
Can a 20-yard dumpster take a full roof tear-off?
That depends on squares and layers, because shingles fill a weight allowance long before they fill the box. Expect a fill line below the rail on shingle loads. Call with the roof measurements and layer count and we will size it honestly.
20 or 30 — which one should I order?
Both boxes park in the same 22-foot footprint, so space is not the decider — material is. Take the 20 for mixed household loads and anything heavy. Take the 30 when a gut renovation or whole-property cleanout produces big volumes of lighter, bulkier debris.
