Driveway placement, in detail
The container needs a firm, level surface and a straight shot for the truck. Before you call, walk the driveway: measure the usable run, check the width between house and fence, look up for service wires and limbs, look down for cracked or soft slab sections. Decide which way the rear door should face — it swings open, and the loading route to that door decides how hard the job feels every day of the rental. Leave the sidewalk, the garage, and any shared access usable the whole time.
Ohio side: driveway vs. right-of-way
In Cincinnati, the city’s open-street permit rule targets public right-of-way — a roll-off sitting in a curb lane, alley, or sidewalk space needs that permit through the Department of Transportation and Engineering before it lands. A box parked fully on your own driveway is a different situation from one in the street. If any part of the footprint reaches public space, or street placement is the only option on your block, start with our permit page and settle it before delivery day.
Kentucky side: Covington permits the driveway too
Across the river the rules change shape. Covington requires a container permit on public and private property — the driveway placement that raises no city paperwork in Cincinnati needs a $20.00 permit from Covington’s Neighborhood Services Department / Code Enforcement at City Hall. The city also caps the stay at 90 days unless Code Enforcement grants an extension. Newport and Florence set their own rules through their own offices, and we don’t assume outcomes for either. Old houses, full boxes
Cleanouts here skew old. More than two-thirds of Ohio’s housing units were built before 1980, and nearly one in four predates 1940 — houses holding decades of stored contents and heavy finish materials. The regional landfill’s accepted list covers what estate cleanouts actually produce: furniture, mattresses, appliances, and general household waste. Refrigerators and freezers carry a Freon-handling step at the facility. Batteries, tires, liquids, and chemical-labeled cans stay out — set them aside as you sort, and check the materials guide for the full lists.
Yard waste is its own stream
Brush mixed into a cleanout load is normal. A load that is only yard waste is regulated differently in Ohio, and Hamilton County runs seasonal resident drop-off sites for grass and bundled brush that may beat renting a box. If the job is storm limbs and hedge tear-outs, say so — we’d rather point you to the right outlet than deliver the wrong rental.

Do I need a permit for a dumpster on my own driveway?
